The owner of a Ukiah concrete business, his wife and his brother were arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of growing more than 750 marijuana plants inside one of their homes and two other structures, authorities reported.
Joshua Smith, 32, owner of Smith Concrete, and his brother, Jason Smith, 35, were booked into Mendocino County jail on suspicion of marijuana cultivation for sale, said Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force Commander Bob Nishiyama.
Jennifer Smith, 34, was cited and released because she has two children, 11 and 13, he said.
The two men were released after posting $30,000 bail each, authorities said.
Nishiyama said officers found 50 budding, cloned plants inside Joshua and Jennifer’s Ukiah home on Malaga Drive.
They found an additional 400 plants being grown inside a a gutted, 2,000 square foot home on Marina Drive, overlooking Lake Mendocino, he said. A shed near the house contained 300 plants, Nishiyama said.
Also seized were $5,400 cash, a travel trailer where Jason Smith was staying and a generator that was emitting illegal amounts of pollutants, he said.
The Lake Mendocino property had recently belonged to a Ukiah man who has a pending marijuana-related case, Nishiyama said.
