A McKinleyville man was arrested on drug charges Monday on Highway 101 after a search of his car allegedly revealed more than a pound of marijuana.

At around 10:50 p.m. Monday, Sheriff's Deputies Chris Van Patten and Don Scott stopped a car in the 2000 block of Highway 101 driven by Porsche Charlo, 27, of McKinleyville, for a traffic violation.

While the deputies were talking to Charlo, Scott's K-9 partner Hondo, who is trained to sniff out narcotics, "hit" on the trunk of the vehicle, according to sheriff's reports.

When asked, Charlo first told sheriff's deputies he did not have any illegal drugs in his trunk, but later said he was carrying marijuana, according to sheriff's reports.

A search of the trunk revealed one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana in a duffel bag, according to sheriff's reports.

Charlo was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale and booked into jail on a $25,000 bond.
